A
man and woman injured in a collision between a sedan and a Corvette on
Highway 169 near Milepost 3 and Crystal Rock Road late Wednesday
afternoon were airlifted to a Phoenix hospital, said Charlie Cook,
spokesman for Central Yavapai Fire District.
"The
crash occurred at about 4:06 p.m.," said Robert Bailey, spokesman for
the Arizona Department of Public Safety. "There are two vehicles
involved with one person being transported from each vehicle."
At
about 4:10 p.m., Sgt. Mike Hardt with the Prescott office of the
Arizona Department of Public Safety said officers were on their way to
the scene of the collision. Soon afterward, Yavapai County Sheriff's
deputies were called out to assist, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.
Cook
said a 44-year-old man who was driving an aqua Corvette and a
45-year-old woman from Cordes Junction, the driver of a white Chevrolet
Impala sedan, were flown by Native Air to a Level 1 trauma center in
Phoenix.
Cook noted that, at press time, three
engines with 11 crew members who answered the call to the collision had
left the scene, but officers with the Arizona Department of Public
Safety remained there, continuing their investigation.
Eastbound
lanes of 169 were shut down soon after officers reached the site, said
Bart Graves, spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Traffic
was shut down in both directions for about an hour as firefighters
treated the injured, cleared the area for medical helicopters to land,
and officers investigated the collision.
"The roadway is now reopened," Bailey said.
